If your lucky, then the hardest decision you’ll have to make in the next few weeks is whether to choose to receive your lottery payments either in the form of a lottery lump sum payout, or as a lottery annuity settlement. Of course, that’s a pretty big if.
Fortunately, there are ways to make yourself luckier. Sort of. Whether or not they work is really up in the air, but it’s worth a shot, isn’t it? Here are just a few things some people have done to enhance their luck.
Believe That They’re Lucky. If you believe you’re lucky, then chances are you’ll be luckier. Studies have shown that superstition can enhance performance, irrational overconfidence can increase productivity, and self-deception can reduce stress. In other words, people who believe that they’re lucky tend to work better than those who don’t.
Trust Your Gut. Richard Wiseman did a lot of research on luck, and wrote a book titled The Luck Factor: The Four Essential Principles. One of these principles was to listen to lucky hunches. Wiseman found that lucky people could make effective decision based simply on hunches, on gut feelings. They also actively took steps to boost their intuition, such as mediating, or clearing their minds.
Be Optimistic. Another of Wiseman’s principles was to expect good things. He found that being optimistic was a sort of self-fulfilling, prophetic attitude. Those who expected good things to come found that they indeed came. Lucky people remain positive in the face of failure and adversity, and reversed their fortunes.
If you’d like the opportunity to have to choose between receiving a huge fortune as an annuity or as a lump sum, then believe you will have the chance. Trust your gut, and be optimistic. What do you have to lose, anyways?
